Planning update: 19 January 2021

Camilla Lesser, Development Manager at Essential Living, said:

“Essential Living is committed to delivering a high-quality new development at 100 Avenue Road and ensuring a positive and sustainable future for this accessible site.

The principle of the development is established, and it is in everyone’s interest to see the site built out and making a positive contribution to local life as soon as possible.

The coronavirus pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on almost every sector of the economy, including property, and its impacts mean the development isn’t viable in its current form.

The reality is the approved scheme is not able to deliver the level of affordable housing currently required by the planning permission, which was agreed over 5 years ago. We have submitted an application to Camden Council that reflects the amount of affordable housing we are able to provide, supported by a detailed viability assessment.

We have also submitted a separate application to discharge the condition on external materials that will be used on the buildings.

Both applications demonstrate our commitment to delivering a high-quality development that benefits local people, with contemporary new homes, landscaped public spaces and much-needed modern space at no cost for The Winch community project.”
